My fellow Americans, recently I heard the current President of the United States to proclaim from the pulpit of a primarily Black Church, that “slavery was the cause of the civil war.”  It is my belief that such statements are WRONG and at least MISLEADING.
 
I am presenting my understanding – please read and decide for yourself.

 SECESSION
 
Confederate States of America (CSA)

 
Secession:  The action of withdrawing formally from membership of a federation or a political state.
 
Secessionist State:  Texas = The Republic of the Rio Grande succeeded from Mexico on 17 January 1840
 
United States annexed a new Republic:  The United States of America annexed the Mexican Coahuila y Texas State, Mexico 1845.
 
In 1861 America consisted of 34 States of the Union, nineteen were free States and fifteen were slaves holding states.
 
The Supreme Court of the United States of America has unilateral ruled that secession is unconstitutional.
 
Eleven Secessionist States of America:  Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas, Mississippi, North Carolina
 
The cause of the eleven southern states to secede from the Union, was the “belief” by those secessionist states that secession was the right action for them to take to protect the institution of slavery, in their states and an attempt to avoid the promotion of tariff laws by the Federal government.

THE CAUSE OF THE CIVIL WAR!!!
 
At 4:30 am on 12 April 1861 confederate troops fired on Fort Sumter in South Carolina. This action marked the beginning of the Civil War!
 
It is my belief that Confederate troops attacking Fort Sumter in South Carolina in April 1861 was the actual CAUSE and BEGINNING of the American Civil war.
Had there not been that attack, there may NOT have been a civil war.
 
Slavery, as an institution had existed in the British Empire since 1555. The institution of slavery was the bedrock of the wealth of the British Empire. It was also practiced within Britain itself and within all its colonies throughout the world. The United Kingdom ended its practice of slavery in 1833 – 30 years before the American Civil war.
 
A form of Slavery or Involuntary Servitude is legal in 21st Century America, “if” imposed upon a person who has been found guilty of a crime.
 
There is no legal requirement to compensate imprisoned, convicted persons, should such persons be forced to work without pay while imprisoned. Hence, that person is laboring under the terms of involuntary servitude as a slave.
 
It is my belief that if the exception phrase is removed, a perception may be created of compensating a criminal and placing a financial burden upon the criminal justice systems throughout the nation.
 
The Federal or States government could establish a compensation system should it so decide.
